We focus on laying the foundations first, so you grow in confidence and ability each and every week. Plus, there’s loads of FUN!

Our Intro to Derby program runs Tuesday nights from 5.30-7pm.

SKATERS

Already know how to skate and now you’re ready to take it to the next level and learn to play Roller Derby?

We welcome Juniors 8-17 and Adults 18+ in our Intro To Derby Program.

We’d love to welcome you to the crew! With a quick program to hip whip you up to speed, you’ll be skating with us as a fully fledged Roller Derby skater in no time.

OFFICIALS

Not quite sure about playing Roller Derby, but would love to be involved anyway?

We’d love to have you in the MRDL family!

NSO’s These are our non-skating officials. We have you trackside at games and practice games. From penalty box timers to keeping score. There’s plenty for you.

BENCHIES Oh we love our bench staff. Our benchies help strategise with our skaters, keep them motivated and organised on game days.

VOLUNTEERS We love and welcome all helpers! From cheer squadding to selling merchandise.

REFEREES Every game needs someone to keep them in check! With numerous referees required on track, it has you skating without being ‘in’ the game.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO SKATE?

Not at all! We can teach you how to skate, how to stop, how to fall safely without getting hurt – and everything in between.

HOW MUCH IS IT TO JOIN?

Roller Derby (Intro To Roller Derby and our Contact Training Sessions) are paid for on a term-by-term basis, however we do not break for School Holidays! #BONUS!

Joining our Intro to Derby sessions also gives you access to our SkateFit program which runs on Sunday 6 -7.30pm. #BONUS!

It’s $110 per term per skater.

You (or your junior) will also be required to become a Skate Australia member for the current calendar year. The 2023 Roller Derby Membership is approx $103 and covers you for the whole year.

FAMILY SKATE FEE BENEFITS
As more families start skating together (which is the most fabulous thing ever!) we have decided as at the start of Term 4, 2023 we would love to offer your family a discount for having 3 or more family members enrolled in Roller Derby.
RD Family Pricing as follows:
Person 1: $110 per term
Person 2: $110 per term
Person 3: $55 per term.
Person 4: $55 per term
and so on.
Total family pricing due prior to start of term would be:
1 person $110
Family of 2 total $220
Family of 3 total $275
Family of 4 total $330
Please note that this is for immediate family only (ie. 3 siblings, 1 parent and 2 children, 2 parents 1 child, etc).
Thanks for being a part of our league!
Term fees are always subject to change depending on what MRDL costs are. So whilst this pricing is current for Term 4, 2023 onwards, note there will be price increases in the future although we try to keep these at a minimum.

INTRO TO DERBY

This is a program focussed on getting started with Roller Derby. From learning how to skate (including skating safely, stopping & even falling) through to Roller Derby Game Play, you’ll learn it all.

You will learn the basics of the game of Roller Derby throughout the 10 weeks of FUN.

We start off with zero contact. That’s right. We’re not throwing you in like ‘Whip It’!

We build you up so that you are comfortable with zero contact, then minimal contact and upwards from there.

JUNIORS (Under 18)

If you’re under 18, you’re in luck! We now offer Intro to Derby to all skaters 8+.

With fully accredited coaches and WWC compliance, you’re in safe hands.

We have limited numbers of smaller sized skates, so if you’d prefer to bring your own, no worries at all

WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL I NEED?

You’ll need skates (or you can borrow ours).

You’ll need wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet (or you can borrow ours).

A smile (of course!) and a willingness to learn.

If you’re wanting to participate in our Intro To Derby programs the only additional item you will need is a mouth guard.

That’s it!

OUR ROLLER DERBY LEVELS

We run through a 4 level system at MRDL.

White stars (Level 1)

Yellow Stars (Level 2)

Orange/Pink Stars (Level 3)

Green Stars (Level4)

When you have passed your white star, we start preparing you (gently) for contact and we build upon your skills in each level.

When you get to Yellow Star, you can participate in low contact scrimmages (practice Bouts). When you get to Green Star, you can then play at Full Contact level with us in Team Regional Victoria and in any other teams we are involved with at the time.
