About MRDL
About
Our Story.
Our Mission.
From humble beginnings, MRDL is going from strength to strength. With home grown skaters participating in the “Statewide Stampede” competition in ‘TRV’ (aka Team Regional Victoria) through to skating with our friends in South Australian Leagues, we have skaters and participants at all levels.
Our mission here at Mildura Roller Derby League is to create a fun, safe environment for everyone. Everyone deserves to have the ability to get active and to be part of an amazing group of humans.
We welcome senior skaters and junior skaters alike of all levels and of all abilitites.
Mildura Roller Derby League (MRDL) was formed in February 2011, providing an alternative, action packed sport to Mildura and the Sunraysia district. From the early beginnings, MRDL has made significant growth and change and pride ourselves on becoming a professional and competitive league.
Roller Derby is a colourful, action packed, full contact sport played by people on roller skates. It requires a high level of skill and fitness. From its roots in Texas, it has become the fastest growing women’s sport in the world. Nowhere is this more evident than in Australia.

COACHING
about your ROLLER DERBY coaches
Roller Derby
Our Roller Derby coaches are well and truly experienced.
Mama Mayhem (Sophie Bowring) started skating with MRDL in April 2013 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our league.
Mama Mayhem has been a part of the league on and off holding a variety of positions within the committee and has been coaching and training new, upcoming and bouting skaters since 2013.
Mama Mayham has participated in various bootcamps and tournaments around the country, and even in New Zealand!
Mama Mayhem was instrumental in the formation of Team Regional Victoria (previously also known as The Rolling Matilda’s) and the Victorian Statewide Stampede Tournament.
She has skated for years within Team Regional Victoria and is a constant returning guest skaters with Rockabellas Roller Derby League in South Australia.
In 2024 we expanded our roller derby coaching team and welcomed Khaotic Pitt (Kira Barlow) and in 2025 we welcomes Pins and Needles (Sarah Monks) to the coaching crew too.
Khaotic Pitt & Pins and Needles support our Intro to Derby skaters to master basic skating skills, while building skater confidence and understanding of how the game of roller derby works.
Khaotic Pitt started her roller derby adventure in Broken Hill back in 2013, and first scrimmed in August of that year against Murder City in Adeliade. KP took a break from skating while studying at university and returned to Broken Hill to discover the club had disbanded. She joined our SkateFit program in 2022 and dove back into roller derby in 2023 as if she had never stopped quickly remastering her skills and taking to the track as part of the 2024 Team Regional Victoria team along with Mama Mayhem.

COACHING
about your SKATEFIT coaches
Our SKATEFIT coaches also bring great experience with them to each and every session.
Loren Self (Honey Bee) started skating with us in 2022 and has been a keen skater and advocate for all things skating. She worked hard at learning and refining her skills through both SkateFit and Roller Derby. She applied to be a coach in 2023 and we quickly welcomed the opportunity for our skaters to learn from her enthusiastic coaching. She joined TRV on track in 2024 after doing super well during her modified contact games.
Melanie Jones (aka Shiva Strick9) started skating at the same time as Steph in 2021. Mel’s a teacher by qualification and has the natural ability to coach and motivate the skaters under their care.
Mel (like all our coaches) also loves seeing our skaters being pushed to do their best in all SkateFit activities.
Leanne Heffernan joined SkateFit after attending a Come and Try session in July 2022 and she hasn’t looked back. Leanne joined our SkateFit coaching crew in October of 2023. Leanne brings with her a wealth of skating experience with a background in Artistic Roller Skating. She has been skating since the age of 8, and skated competitively for many years to an Australian National level. Roller skating has always been a part of her life and she loves being part of our SkateFit family, especially the dress ups!
Khaotic Pitt (Kira) joined our coaching team also in 2023 following a return to skating after a decade-long hiatus. She’s a welcome addition to the passionate team.
