LET’S TALK skatefit

SKATEFIT
In our SkateFit program we take you through a different 10 week program that includes skills, fitness and lots of laughter! We do everything to music and you’ll see your abilities and fitness grow – with a great ‘side-benefit’ of being part of the best ‘gang’ ever!
You learn how to skate, how to stop, how to fall, skate faster and even twist and turn along with all the other essentials that come along with skating.
SkateFit (ages 8+) skate on Sunday evenings from 6pm-7.30pm.
What Ages Do You Accept?
We are open to anyone aged 8+. So long as you (or your junior human) are 8 or above and happy to skate around with a smile of joy on your face and follow our coaches instructions, you’re welcome to join us!
What Equipment Will You Need?
You’ll need skates (or you can borrow ours).
You’ll need wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and a helmet (or you can borrow ours). We have limited gear avaliable starting at a Ladies Size 5 and safety gear ranging from XS-XXL.
A smile (of course!) and a willingness to learn.
If you’re wanting to also participate in our Intro To Derby programs the only additional item you will need is a mouth guard.
That’s it!
Where Is It Held?
We run our SkateFit sessions at Irymple Community Leisure Centre, Karadoc Ave, Irymple
Do I Need To Know How To Skate?
Not at all! We can teach you how to skate, how to top, how to fall safely without getting hurt – and everything in between.
How Much Is It?
SkateFit runs only on a term-by-term basis and is $110 for the term.
You will also be required to become a Skate Australia member for the current calendar year. The 2023 Participation membership is approx $43 and covers you for the whole year.
Family Skate Fee Discounts
SkateFit
Our SkateFit philosophy is that everyone should have the opportunity to skate recreationally.
So we make it as accessible as possible for anyone ages 8+. We provide skates and safety gear for you to use if you don’t have your own at no extra cost.
Every term we run an intake and every term we have more and more skate mates join us…with many returning term-on-term… for 8+ years.
SkateFit is perfect for you if you want to skate around whilst having a great time. You’ll meet your new friends (and probably see some familiar faces from around town), you’ll have the time of your life ANNNND you’ll get fit doing it.
SESSION TIMES:
Sunday 6-7.30pm, Irymple Community Leisure Centre
was implemented as a Term by Term program in our league in 2018 after a couple of failed attempts earlier that year and in late 2017. We were struggling to keep a venue as they kept being renovated or hired out to mainstream sports. Our Roller Derby skaters were retiring, having babies and leaving town! With only a handful of amazing humans left, it looked like Mildura Roller Derby League was about to die a long, slow and painful death, which is something no club wants to experience.
Sophie Bowing (Mama Mayhem) enlisted the help of Marce from Ballarat Roller Derby and they launched SkateFit Sunraysia in 2018.
We haven’t looked back! (And we are ever-so grateful to Sophie for launching it here). Without SkateFit, our league would have folded and there would be zero skating opportunities in Mildura and Sunraysia.
It started out being held at Chaffey Secondary on Deakin Avenue, to being run on the Netball Courts at Mansell Reserve during Covid… to finally landing a permenant home at Irymple Community Leisure Centre.
